Golds are random, and Greens are predictable in every facet.
Greens come in a specific skin, with specific mobs and drop from specific Bosses. Max greens are always r9. If you want that skin with that mod, you know exactly where to get it. Golds come in a variety of skins depending on your location, drop with a huge variety of mods, and have a wide range of requirements. So all the abovementioned posts about being able to configure the mods you want to the skins you want is what makes Gold different from Greens. Prophesies and Faction Golds that are not inscribable but have perfect popular mods and sought after skins, are way rarer than Greens. I would not consider Greens "rare" because they are completely predictable. You know who drops it, farm it long enough and its yours. Thats why Greens will never get to the heady heights of 100k + ectos. A lot of Greens can be gotten at 5k, cheaper than at Weaponsmiths' (if you count in the materials). |

But not all greens are replicable. Take the Kenshi Butterfly Daggers. You can't make that item, nor can you create that skin no matter how much you search. Kenshi is the only person who will give it to you. Making greens still have their value.

The fact that they aren't inscribable doesn't mean you can't find a replica. |

Though if Zeek Aran is right about reproducing the skin (I'm not going to check) then you picked a bad example because the weapon is fully reproducible, you just need to get lucky on the 15/-5 inherent mod. Urgoz's Longbow is a much better example of a green that can't be reproduced. |

Green items are far more common given their stats (always req 9 (shiro's still exception?) with perfect mods) than gold items. Specially on skins that are not easily farmed. |

given the choice of a green weapon, or a gold weapon with identical stats and skin, only the most inexperienced players would choose the green because they somehow have the dellusion that green is better. Why would anyone choose the weapon that is least customizable? Want a weapon with specific stats? you'd be stuck with the choice of one or two green weapon skins that have the stats, or any skin for a gold weapon. Still, I wouldn't totally disregard greens. Some are still nice and a cheap way to get a nice skin. Murakai's Blade vs. a req.9 Runic Blade is a good example of this. |
